88-year-old woman struck, killed by car in Naperville

Police are continuing to investigate the death of an 88-year-old Naperville woman who died after being struck by a car.

Johanna Polczer was crossing Aurora Avenue near Devonshire at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday when she was hit by a silver 2001 Volkswagen Beetle, police said. There were no crosswalks or traffic controls where she was crossing.

Sgt. Lee Martin said he did not know where Polczer was headed, but was told she walked regularly and was alone at the time. Contrary to earlier reports, she did not reside at a nearby assisted living facility.

Polczer was rushed to Edward Hospital Thursday but died shortly after arriving as a result of her injuries, police said.

No charges have currently been filed against the 24-year-old Naperville woman who was behind the wheel of the Volkswagen. Martin would not speculate on whetherthat might change, but said there was no indication of driver impairment.

Police officials are still investigating the accident. Anyone with information is asked to call (630) 305-5285.
