A peek behind the curtain at 'Chorus Line' auditions
'Every Little Step'
Unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to Equity auditions enabled Adam Del Deo and James Stern to record touching stories about some of the 3,000 dancers auditioning for roles in the Broadway revival of "A Chorus Line." Archival footage bridges the new with the original, created by the late director/choreographer Michael Bennett from 12 hours of interviews conducted with Broadway dancers. This doc tells how actress Marsha Mason saved the first show, and how a simple title change created a classic song. Rated PG-13 for language and sexual references. 96 minutes.
Opens today at the Music Box in Chicago, Evanston's CineArts 6, and the Renaissance Place in Highland Park.
'Rudo Y Cursi'
Carlos Cuaron's delightful comic drama combines sports with sibling rivalry as he reunites with "Y tu mama tambien" stars Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna. They play two poor Mexican brothers rescued from a life on a banana farm by a slimy sports agent (Guillermo Francella) who can only take one of them to play soccer in Mexico City. There isn't much field action, but brotherly competition supplies plenty of comical fireworks. Lots of fun. In Spanish with subtitles. Rated R for language, sexual situations and drug use. 102 minutes.
Opens today at area theaters.
