Ethics plan took guts
Today, more than ever, our state is wearing a black eye created by dishonest politicians. As we celebrate the victory of our own Barack Obama, we are punished with the indictment of former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
We are the Land of Lincoln and it is time we move away from the business as usual politics our state has become used to and go back to the morals and ethics which helped us make this state great.
Recently, State Representative Keith Farnham introduced and passed a bill out of the House that will punish those corrupt officials who are kicked out of office by eliminating their pensions. This is not a retroactive bill, but it is one that will set a precedent to future governors that it is time for honesty in government and if that is too much for them to handle, then they should not be rewarded the benefits they feel they are entitled to. In my opinion, this works out great because it will hit these deceitful politicians where it counts, in their wallets.
Thank you, Rep. Farnham, for stepping up and being proactive with your legislation. I hope you are successful in your attempt to move this state toward greater ethics and standards in government.
