On TV: Salutes to Saunders

Salutes to Saunders

Warner Saunders, who began his career as a Chicago Public Schools teacher and Boys Club director only to spend 40 years in TV, the last 29 at WMAQ Channel 5, retires from his post as lead 10 p.m. news anchor on Wednesday, May 20. Before that, the Museum of Broadcast Communications plays host to a dinner and dancing salute to Saunders starting with a reception at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 16, in the Imperial Ballroom of the Fairmont Chicago, 200 N. Columbus Drive. WVAZ 102.7-FM disc jockey Herb Kent serves as the master of ceremonies. Tickets are $350, available online at museum.tv. In addition, Channel 5 and Telemundo WSNS Channel 44 celebrate Saunders at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the Museum of Science and Industry, 57th Street and Lake Shore Drive, Chicago. Admission to that affair is free.

Immigration and Yu

WLS Channel 7's Linda Yu examines how the immigration debate specifically affects the Asian-American community in "Asian Influences: Dream America" at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16.

'SNL' out, 'Glee' in

Will Ferrell plays host to the season finale of NBC's "Saturday Night Live" at 10:30 p.m. on Channel 5, with Green Day as the musical guest. Andy Samberg runs a prime-time compilation of "SNL" short films at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 17, on Channel 5. ... Fox's "Prison Break" has its two-hour series finale at 7 p.m. today, May 15, on WFLD Channel 32. Fox's new musical comedy series "Glee" debuts at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, on Channel 32, of course right after "American Idol."

Lady Terminator

"Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" is a fairly formulaic sequel, with Arnold Schwarzenegger having already gone over to the good side in "T2." Yet it does have one neat twist: This time the evil Terminator is a woman, played by blond hottie Kristanna Loken. It's at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16, on AMC.

Kristanna Loken knocks Arnold around in "T3."
