Round Lake Beach man charged with beating infant

Round Lake Beach police have charged a 28-year-old resident with beating his infant child, officials said Tuesday.

Jaime Guadarrama, of the 1400 block of Poplar Avenue, has been charged with aggravated battery of a child, aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery, said Officer Paul Grace of the Round Lake Beach Police Department.

Grace said the child was seriously injured in the torso area. He could not release details or the condition of the child. The child's exact age also was not available.

The charges filed by the Lake County State's Attorneys office are all felonies, Grace said, and could put Guadarrama behind bars for up to 30 years.

Grace said Round Lake Beach police were contacted by physicians at Children's Memorial Hospital in Milwaukee on May 8. Doctors said injuries suffered by the infant were not consistent with statements made by Guadarrama, Grace said.

Investigators spoke with doctors and interviewed Guadarrama, and learned Guadarrama attacked the child before going to the hospital, Grace said.

Guadarrama was arrested and charged Monday, Grace said, and appeared in bond court early Tuesday. Guadarrama remains in Lake County jail in lieu of a $200,000 bond.

The Department of Children and Family Services have been notified and are investigating the case.

The child remains in the hospital, Grace said.
