Nine arrested in string of robberies
Waukegan police arrested nine people in connection with six robberies from two restaurants, a clothing store, bakery, a pizza delivery driver and a cabdriver. The series of armed and unarmed robberies took place in a span of 19 days beginning April 17, Waukegan police said Tuesday. Police received information leading to the arrests after stopping a vehicle that contained proceeds from the robberies, officials said.
Kenyatta Jolly, 17, of the 800 block of Indiana Ave., and an unidentified Waukegan 15-year-old juvenile were charged in connection with a robbery on April 17 at Panaderia El Hornito, 1905 Grand Ave., police said.
Kantrall Brumfield, 22, and Sumintera Hodges, 19, both of the 1000 block of New York St.; Brian Edwards, 17, of the 1200 block of Indiana Ave.; Cleo Delk, 19, and Dinarrion Delk, 21, both of the 3300 block of Winhaven Drive, were charged in connection with the April 27 robbery of a pizza delivery driver on the 1100 block of New York Street., police said.
Jolly, the Waukegan juvenile and Eric Guyton, 17, of the 800 block of Indiana Ave. were charged in connection with the April 28 robbery at Tute's Bakery, 623 Greenwood Ave., police said.
Brumfield, Hodges, Hubanks and Edwards were all charged in the May 1 armed robbery of El Paraisio Restaurant, 14. N. McAree Road; Brumfield, Hodges and Hubanks were charged in connection with the armed robbery of a cabdriver at the intersection of Chestnut Street and Ridgeland Avenue on May 4; and Hubanks was charged in connection with the armed robbery of MVP Sports, 2214 Grand Ave. on May 6, police said. Police recovered a semiautomatic .32 caliber pistol from Hubanks' residence, officials said.
Jolly was charged with two counts of robbery and is being held on $200,000 bond; Brumfield was charged with two counts of armed robbery and one count of robbery and is held on $250,000 bond; Hodges was charged with two counts of armed robbery and one count of robbery and is being held on $250,000 bond; Edwards is charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of robbery and is being held on $500,000 bond; Cleo and Dinarrion Delk were each charged with one count of robbery and are being held on $500,000 bond; the Waukegan juvenile was charged with two counts of robbery and is being held at the Robert W. Depke Juvenile Justice Center; and Guyton was charged with one count of robbery and is being held on $200,000 bond.
