3 Lake Co. teens arrested after shooting

Three Lake County teens have been arrested and charged with gun violations after firing a .40 caliber handgun in the air as a warning to another motorist.

Ahmad Karmash, 17, of the 1900 block of Midday Drive in Zion, and Noel Bearden, 17, of the 1600 block of Glen Flora in Waukegan, have been charged with one count each of aggravated discharge of a firearm, officials said in a news release. A third unidentified juvenile was also arrested and charged by police, though charges were not released.

Lake County officials said the victims were heading north on Wilson Road in Beach Park on May 7 when a silver Toyota minivan driven by the offenders pulled up next to them. The juvenile offender and one of the victims were arguing over a girl when the juvenile offender drew a black handgun and fired five shots into the air, the news release said.

The victims fled the scene without being injured, then phoned police. Based on the investigation, it was determined the juvenile offender and the two 17-year-old offenders were involved in the shooting incident, and they were arrested near their homes soon after on the same day, May 7.

The juvenile offender has been turned over to the Depke Juvenile Detention Center. Karmash and Bearden have posted the required 10 percent of their $5,000 bond and are expected back in court on June 3.
