Booth joins DePaul staff
From DePaul standout David Booth has joined the men's basketball staff as an assistant coach, DePaul coach Jerry Wainwright announced Tuesday.
Booth returns to his alma mater after playing professionally around the world and scouting in the NBA.
"David's experience as a player and scout at the professional level makes him a great fit for our basketball program," said Wainwright. "David is a great role model and mentor for our players, and we all look forward to him joining the program."
Booth was inducted into the DePaul Athletics Hall of Fame in February as one of the program's all-time basketball greats. Over his career from 1988-92, Booth totaled 1,933 points for second all-time while leading the Blue Demons to a pair of NCAA Tournaments and one NIT appearance. Overall, he is ranked among the program's all-time best in scoring, scoring average, rebounding, blocked shots, steals, field goals and free throws.
After graduating from DePaul as the first player in school history with 1,500 points, 500 rebounds, 200 assists and 100 blocks, he spent 14 years playing professionally with stops in France, Greece, Italy, Japan and South America.
"This was a very easy decision for me to make in coming back to DePaul to join the basketball program," said Booth. "It was easy because I've been a part of the DePaul family for the last 20 years. My family and I are very excited to move to Chicago and I can't wait to start working with the players, coaches and administration."
A native of Peoria, Booth became an NBA scout in the Southeast Region for the Memphis Grizzlies in December 2005.
