Sugar Grove man charged with sex assault
A 28-year-old Sugar Grove man was charged over the weekend with sexually assaulting a woman he knew.
Brian J. Banbury, of the 100 block of Meadows Drive, was arrested early Saturday after police were called to investigate a disturbance at his home, Sugar Grove Detective John Sizer said. He is charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual assault and aggravated unlawful restraint, all felonies.
Sizer said Banbury left the residence before police could arrive. He was arrested later Saturday after agreeing to an interview. Sizer said the victim was treated at Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora.
Banbury remains in the Kane County jail in lieu of $500,000 bond, according to an inmate listing Monday afternoon. Should he be released, he is prohibited from having any contact with the woman and will be monitored by GPS.
Aggravated criminal sexual assault is a Class X felony with a standard sentencing range of six to 30 years in prison.
Banbury is set to appear May 21 before Kane County Judge James R. Murphy.
