Melchert: It's been a wonderful 27 years

A simple thank you to the residents of Bartlett for giving me the honor of serving on the village board as trustee and as Village President for the past 27 years seems hardly sufficient. Yet that is what I have to give.

Our community has more than tripled its size in the last 30 years, and more than doubled in the last 15 years. With such growth, some might expect dire consequences.

We can say there have been many challenges. Those challenges were met by thoughtful village boards, and with good planning and great diligence on the part of village staff. As a matter of fact, at least in my opinion, our residents and village officials accepted those challenges, turned them into advantages and made the community better while still keeping our small town atmosphere.

I would raise a toast to all who have taken an interest in our community, who wish to make our village a better place not only for themselves, but for their neighbors.

Bartlett is truly a place that I am proud to call home.
