Accept Christians and agnostics alike
It was disturbing to read Donald Cavi's letter from April 22 ("Atheists might want to reconsider views").
I've taken plenty of time to consider the complexity of this world, but I still consider myself agnostic.
This nation has never been a Christian nation, but a nonjudgmental nation that accepts all people, regardless of their creed.
Whether God exists or not, we can never know the truth as humans. We ask questions that go far beyond our ability to consider and comprehend, and to pretend we know the truth is naive and conceited. The only thing we actually know is that people have to do the best they can on this earth, and if God exists, he will judge us based on how we treat others.
Nonbelievers and believers in other faiths are not "lesser" people, as Cavi suggests, but fully-functioning humans who have as much a right to be here as any Christian.
Religion can be a great thing for many people, but some people find no solace, comfort, or reason to believe, and that is just as acceptable.
It's too bad some people are so certain of themselves that they refuse to see the good in others.
