More than 300 respond to Mother's Day essay contest
Our Mother's Day essay contest drew more than 300 entries, all loving testaments to how much we love our mothers.
Some were moving. Others were downright funny: "Next my mom is a genius! She's just like Einstein except she's way more beautiful and kinder," wrote Tony Catinella, Thompson Elementary School in Lake Villa. "My mother loves me no matter what. Like one time, I dropped the cat on her back, and she got all scratched up, she still loves me," wrote Olivia S. of Woodland Intermediate School in Gurnee. We chose Danny Lipa's essay because of his unending efforts to love his mom "24/7. 365 days, and 52 weeks," despite the fact that he has to do chores.
A special thanks to the teachers who turned this into a class assignment. And thanks to Carlucci's (6111 N. River Road in Rosemont, (847) 518-0990, carluccirosemont.com) for donating the prize, which is a $200 brunch for five on Mother's Day.
