Lake searched in Columbia triple slaying

COLUMBIA -- Detectives in scuba gear searched a lake behind the southern Illinois home where a mother and her two boys were murdered.

Private funeral services are scheduled Saturday for Columbia resident Sheri Coleman and her sons, Garett and Gavin. And a public service is scheduled for Sunday night at a Columbia park.

The three were found dead Tuesday morning after authorities went to their home for a wellness check at the suggestion of husband and father Chris Coleman.

Authorities haven't released a cause of death or the results of autopsies.

Maj. Jeff Connor is a deputy commander of the major case squad of greater St. Louis. He confirmed the lake search Friday in Columbia. Neighbors described detectives using scuba diving gear during the search.
