Swine flu delays Des Plaines Theater movies

Des Plaines Theater became the latest victim of swine flu.

The 84-year-old theater at 1476 Miner St. in downtown Des Plaines, which only last weekend started showing English language movies, is delaying this weekend's showing of "The Bee Movie," featuring Jerry Seinfeld and Renee Zellweger.

The movie was scheduled to play at 7 and 9 p.m. May 8 and 9. It will now be shown the weekend of May 15 and 16.

Ticket cost is $5 per person. For more information, call (847) 391-5300.

The Des Plaines Energy and Efficiency Program Green Committee is partnering with the theater owner to launch a series of films on Fridays and Saturdays at the historic theater. The goal is to raise funds for the committee and draw people to downtown.

For now, the theater will continue showing adult-oriented and children's movies on alternating weekends throughout May and June.
