Need a new couch? How about a table ... or two?

If your walls and tables are bare or your furniture is a bit faded, Holmstad's Home Store in Batavia has just what you need.

Thanks to "gently used" donations from residents and others, Holmstad's Home Shop is bursting at the seams, says store manager Gini Perry. Its inventory reduction sale is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

"I would say there's a pretty good collection," Perry said, adding you might want to get there early. Typical shoppers range from young to old.

"We've got young people starting out who want a nice piece of furniture that's much less than you'd pay at the store. Or kids going to college who need dorm furniture," Perry said. "Then there's people who replace what they have and we also sell to people in the complex who want to change out a piece."

The sale benefits the Holmstad Residents Association. The Holmstad, at Fabyan Parkway and Route 31, is one of the region's largest residential independent living complexes ranging from independent living to skilled nursing care.

In addition to furniture, including several Ethan Allen items, shoppers will find pieces of silver, including a butter dish and little bowl. A microwave, dinette set, chairs, furniture groups, sofas, and lots of pictures are among the offerings.

The furniture is restored and cleaned before being put on display, Perry said.

Those looking for a bit of history with their furnishings might want to check out the variety of glassware donated by the Geneva Place after it closed the bar. Among them are heavy drink glasses, martini glasses and goblets.
