Meet the artist:
An opening reception for artist Jorge Rojas, who will work with the West Chicago community to create a unique multimedia art project, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight, May 8, at the West Chicago City Museum, 132 Main St. The New York-based artist will be working out of the museum through May 16 to create My space: West Chicago, the fourth installment of an ongoing series of community-based projects. Rojas will create art in collaboration with members of the community. For more information, contact the museum at (630) 231-3376. Addison Trail plant sale:
Students from Addison Trail High School's horticulture club will host their annual plant sale from 3 to 6 p.m. today, May 8, and from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 9, at the school greenhouse, 213 N. Lombard Road, Addison. The sale will feature annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs and hanging baskets. Proceeds will benefit the student operations of the greenhouse. Parking is available in the main lot and in the front drive of the school.
Hobson West event Saturday:
The Naperville Park District is hosting an event for residents at Hobson West Ponds from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 9. The event will be located north of the gazebo and fishing pier and south of the temporary fencing on the west side of West Street. It will include remarks by board President Suzanne Hart and local residents, fishing off the nearby pier, games for the kids and self-guided walks around the park. A light breakfast also will be available. Attendees are asked to park in the Hobson West subdivision along Merrimac Circle.
Bike rodeo this weekend:
The Warrenville Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee and the Park District will co-host the fourth annual Warrenville Bike Rodeo from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the city hall parking lot, 28W701 Stafford Place. The event is open to anyone who wants to learn about cycling, trails, bike safety and bike equipment. There will be free refreshments and raffle prizes. Breakfast for mom:
Carol Stream will host its annual Mother's Day Breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. The event will include a complimentary rose, a prize drawing and a spring plant sale hosted by the DuPage Organic Garden Club. Musical entertainment includes a performance by the Banjo Buddies Dixieland Jazz trio. The breakfast will be at the Town Center tent, at the intersection of Gary Avenue and Lies Road. Last day for discount:
Saturday, May 9, is the last day to buy season passes for Lombard Park District's new state-of-the-art Paradise Bay Water Park at the Early Bird resident rate. Pass holders are admitted to the water park an hour earlier than the general public on weekdays and get free admission to various programs and events, including adult swim, Dive in Movie and Family Water Carnival and Float Night.
