Charges upped in DuPage Co. overdose death
Prosecutors upgraded charges against a Carol Stream man who is accused of providing the cocaine that led to his girlfriend's fatal overdose.
Brett M. Johnson faces 15 to 30 years in prison if convicted of drug-induced homicide and the unlawful possession and delivery of a controlled substance.
Prosecutor Mary K. Cronin presented evidence earlier this week to a DuPage County grand jury, which added the most serious felony of drug-induced homicide.
Johnson called 911 about 7 a.m. March 25 to report he found his girlfriend Jill Przespolewski unresponsive after he awoke next to her that morning.
Rescuers rushed to his house on the 900 block of Columbia Court, and rushed Przespolewski to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. Doctors pronounced the 33-year-old Clarendon Hills woman dead after unsuccessful attempts to revive her.
Police interviewed Johnson, who they said admitted buying the drugs. Authorities said they also recovered plastic bags believed to contain residue of cocaine and heroin, as well as drug paraphernalia, during a search of Johnson's home.
Johnson remains in the DuPage County jail on a $200,000 bond. He is due in court Wednesday.
