BG pushes back OTB hearing to June 1

The Buffalo Grove village board will delay hearing a proposal for an off-track betting facility at Adam's Rib and Ale House, 301 Milwaukee Ave.

The matter was supposed to reach the board May 18. Instead it will appear on June 1. On Monday, the board, by a 5-2 vote, amended its zoning ordinance to allow off-track betting as a special use.

Village Manager William Brimm said the decision to delay the proposal from Melrose Park-based Inter-Track Partners LLC was based on issues raised at Monday's meeting. He said the additional two weeks would also allow the village to work through the details of the ordinance allowing the OTB, as well as issues involving Inter-Track.

Brimm said the village wants to make sure "if this does go forward, that every effort has been made to identify all the concerns, document them and put them in the ordinance.

"From that point forward, if we have issues, or someone is not complying, you can revoke the special use."

Another concern, he said, is related to the possibility that Trustee Jeffrey Berman might not be able to attend the May 18 meeting.

One concern that was raised Monday was the status of Adam's Rib and Ale House. Brimm said the bar did violate the village's liquor laws by selling alcohol to a minor.

After a hearing with Village President Elliott Hartstein, who is also the village liquor commissioner, the bar shut down for a weekend.
