Annual spring carnival this weekend in Antioch

You can enjoy a funnel cake, corn dog and take a ride on the Tilt-a-Whirl in Antioch this weekend.

On second thought, ride the Tilt-a-Whirl first, then eat the food.

The Antioch 885 Civic Club Annual Spring Fest and Carnival is set for May 7-10 in downtown Antioch. The fest is in a new location this year. It will be set up in the parking lot off Toft Street between Lake and Orchard Streets.

Civic Club President Diane Sala said wristbands allowing for unlimited rides will be available on Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.

Proceeds from the carnival will go to Open Arms Mission, the Relay for Life and four scholarships that will be awarded to students at Antioch and Lakes Community High School.

The Club donates nearly $6,000 to these and other local charities each year. The annual carnival is their only fundraising event.

The club formed in 1965 and was named after the address where members first met. The group gathered in the Antioch Sequoit Masonic Lodge at 885 Main St.

"Our organization is made up of about 30 people, singles and couples." Sala said. "We meet once a month to enjoy social time and to decide about our donations."

The Civic Club is always looking for new members. Sala said people interested in joining can call her at (847) 395-7022

"We hope people from Antioch and the surrounding communities will come to the carnival and make it a success while enjoying the food, fun and games," she said.
