Four Red Stars players called up by national team

Four members of the Chicago Red Stars have been named to the U.S. Women's National Team roster for a pair of games against Japan in May.

The U.S. roster, announced Wednesday, includes Red Stars midfielders Carli Lloyd, Megan Rapinoe and Lindsay Tarpley, as well as defender Marian Dalmy. Chicago's four call-ups ties Boston for the most from any Women's Professional Soccer team roster.

The U.S. women will face Japan on May 20 in Frisco, Texas, and again May 23 in Sandy, Utah. The players will miss the Red Stars' May 23 game against Saint Louis.

The most-capped member of the Red Stars, Tarpley will look to build on her 117 international appearances during the matches. Tarpley, Lloyd and Rapinoe - the U.S. team's leading scorer in 2009 - appeared in each of the Americans' four games at the 2009 Algarve Cup. Dalmy is among a handful of younger players that U.S. Head Coach Pia Sundhage said earned a call-up through outstanding play early in the WPS season. Dalmy, a 24-year-old defender, is tied for the Red Stars team lead with a pair of assists. She missed most of the 2008 international season with a knee injury but does have 10 career caps, including a start in the third-place match at the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup.
