Spending today will ruin our futures

"When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic" - Benjamin Franklin.

Approximately 350 people came to the Kane County Government Center on April 15 to protest excessive taxation and wasteful spending. Most Democrats, and some Republicans, believe massive spending will correct the current recession. I believe it will escalate the problem.

The Bush administration opened the door to excessive spending last fall and the Democratic Congress along with the Obama administration kicked the door in. Our current $11.3 trillion debt will begin to spiral out of control when Baby Boomers begin to take their Social Security and Medicaid benefits. With fewer productive taxpayers than recipients, coupled with the interest on the debt, government will pay out more for those benefits than they take in and eventually will no longer be able to pay the benefits. The current spending programs will add to the burden.

Many came to speak that afternoon, including State Sen. Chris Lauzen, State Rep. Tim Schmitz, Dundee Township Library Trustee Joe Molinaro, Republican candidate for governor Adam Andrzejewski and many local taxpayers.

On behalf of the Conservative Catholics Women's League, I would like to thank the city of Geneva and all who spoke and came to the Geneva Tea Party.
