Judge Obama invite same as Bush invite

Some students and alumni seem more than a little upset about the invitation for President Obama to speak at Notre Dame University and are even calling for the president of the university to resign.

Granted, a private university has the right to invite, or not invite, anyone they please. The part that makes my brain hurt is the selective criteria that is being used to attack this invitation.

They insist that his stand on abortion and embryonic stem research is against the teachings of the Catholic Church. Fair enough. But what about the church's stand on the death penalty?

If memory serves me right I did not hear an outcry from these same alumni and students when they invited George W. Bush based upon his belief that is in direct opposition to the church doctrine.

They had nothing to say about the over 125 executions (including one mentally handicapped person) that took place while George Bush was governor of Texas. I'm not sure the Catholic Church feels their doctrines are like a menu where you can pick and choose which ones you are going to support.

Let's stop being hypocritical here. Isn't that a sin?
