Country club owner, 101, gets $25 million in suit

A Cook County judge has ordered a suburban Evergreen Park to pay $25 million to the 101-year-old owner of a country club.

The judgment Tuesday against the village of Evergreen Park came after an eminent domain trial involving the Evergreen Park Country Club.

Anna Mae Ahern owns the 95-acre golf course. Her attorney, Jim Figliulo, says the village blocked her attempt to sell the property to Home Depot in 1999 by denying the company rezoning for the project.

Figliulo says the village later launched eminent domain proceedings against Ahern to try to seize the property.

Ahern has run the nine-hole golf course since the 1920s.

No one answered a telephone message left after hours at the Evergreen Park mayor's office.
