Geneva-Batavia will just have to wait until flu runs its course

Everyone waiting to see Batavia and Geneva's baseball teams square off this week with first place in the Western Sun Conference on the line will have to wait a little longer.

The three-game series, originally scheduled for Tuesday through Thursday with the Wednesday game at Elfstrom Stadium, has been pushed back for the same reason last Friday's Kane County Meet was canceled - the flu concerns that have closed the school.

Instead, the teams will play at doubleheader Saturday at Geneva, starting bright and early at 8 a.m. The third game of the series is at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Batavia.

The Bulldogs (15-5, 10-1), who aren't allowed to practice officially or unofficially while they are out of school, will try to pick up at the torrid pace - 14 wins in 15 games - they had going before this happened.

Batavia enters the series with a half-game lead against Geneva (15-5, 10-2). Batavia still has a makeup game against Kaneland.

St. Charles food drive: There still is one key series to look forward to this week in the Tri-Cities, and you can help a good cause at the same time.

St. Charles East is coming off a sweep over Lake Park, and the Saints will try to keep St. Charles North reeling after the North Stars lost twice to Larkin and twice to Streamwood last week.

The two programs are teaming up to help feed those in need through a food drive to benefit Northern Illinois Food Bank. The drive will coincide with the annual Cross-town Classic series Tuesday through Thursday.

The North Stars and Saints are asking for the public's help by contributing nonperishable items such as canned fruits and vegetables, soups, stews, cereal, etc. No glass items.
