Teenager stabbed three times in Carpentersville

A Chicago teenager was stabbed in the back three times over the weekend after an argument in Carpentersville's Fox View Apartments, and police have nabbed the man they say is responsible.

The 19-year-old man sustained two stab wounds to his upper back and one more near his left kidney, court documents said.

Dan G. Hurrins Jr., 34, of the 6300 block of South Ada Street in Chicago, was charged Sunday with attempted murder and aggravated battery.

Kane County Judge Karen Simpson on Monday morning set Hurrins' bond at 10 percent of $750,000. He faces between six and 30 years in prison, if convicted of attempted murder.

Meanwhile, the 19-year-old man was treated and released from Sherman Hospital over the weekend, a spokesman said.

According to court documents, Hurrins and the teenager exchanged words during a shouting match around 7:11 p.m. inside an apartment in the first block of Oakcrest Drive.

The teenager left the apartment with his girlfriend and another argument erupted in the hallway between the victim's girlfriend and another woman, documents said. Police do not yet know what the arguments were about, Carpentersville Police Cmdr. Michael Kilbourne said.

During the second fight, Hurrins rushed out of the apartment and ran at the teenager, giving him a "bear hug" and stabbing him in the back with a knife, while repeatedly yelling, "I'm gonna kill this (expletive)," court documents said.

Hurrins later fled the scene in a green Monte Carlo and police arrested him Sunday night in Elgin on Blackhawk Street while he attempted to flee officers by vaulting over balconies, documents said.

He had a black folding knife and dried blood on his shirt, documents said.

Hurrins was unable to post bond and remained in the Carpentersville lockup Monday and was to be transferred to the Kane County jail, Kilbourne said. His next court date is May 14 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
