Man stabbed in Elgin bar fight
Elgin police questioned several people involved in a west-side bar fight Sunday morning that sent a bouncer to the hospital with a stab wound to his leg.
But Elgin Deputy Chief Cecil Smith said today no charges have been filed yet in connection with the stabbing and everyone has been released.
Police were called to JB's, 297 S. McLean Blvd., at about 12:54 a.m.
A 29-year-old employee was stabbed in the leg trying to break up a fight.
The victim was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital where he was treated and released, a spokeswoman said.
Also as part of the case, Victor M. Perez, 33, of the 200 block of South State Street, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
According to court documents, police saw Perez fleeing from JB's and officers found him in a backyard hiding face down against a fence in the 200 block of South Weston Avenue.
During a routine search, police found a small bag plastic bag of a white powdery substance in Perez's pants pocket that tested positive for 8.3 grams of cocaine, police said.
Perez was released from the Elgin jail this morning after posting a $500 bond.
He is due back in court May 14 at the Kane County Judicial Center and faces between one and three years in prison, if convicted of the felony drug charge.
People with information about the fight are asked to call police at (847) 289-2601.
