Man shot in Elgin drive-by

Elgin police are investigating a drive-by shooting early Sunday that stemmed from an argument at a west-side club.

At about 1:16 a.m., authorities were called to the 600 block of Luda Avenue on the city's near east side for a 20-year-old man shot in the lower body from a passing vehicle.

Elgin Deputy Police Chief Cecil Smith would not disclose where the victim was shot, other than to say it was in his lower body.

The victim was taken to Sherman Hospital. A hospital spokesman said he could not comment on the victim's condition; Smith said the injuries were not life threatening.

Smith said the shooting was not gang related and probably was the result of an argument at La Movida, 850 N. State St.

"There was just some type of verbal altercation. It appears they followed him home and shot him," Smith said.

People with information about the case are asked to call (847) 289-2601.
