Obama on target in handling pirates
The happy ending to the pirate saga should serve as an example for all to follow in the future. The saga included bravery and resistance from the U.S. crew, incredible bravery of the captain risking his life for the safety of his men, excellent execution from our military, and clear and decisive direction from President Obama. The President got this one right. He tried negotiations first, which included no ransom payment and mandatory penalties to the pirates in return for their safety. When that failed and they threatened the life of the American captain, he authorized the use of deadly force. Then our exquisitely trained and armed SEAL teams did their duty and eliminated the threat. If the pirates have any brains, they will avoid ships carrying the American flag from now on and go after more "timid" nations.
Next step, Mr. President, convince the world to outlaw paying ransoms to the pirates which encourages bad behavior, and then invade the pirates' base in Somalia and permanently take them out. Just as President Thomas Jefferson did using our Navy and Marines at Tripoli. Some things never change!
