Sox recall Podsednik, send Owens down
The White Sox are going to have two new faces in the dugout tonight when they open a three-game series at Texas.
One -- Scott Podsednik -- is very familiar.
One of the stars on the Sox' 2005 World Series championship team, the 33-year-old Podsednik had his contract purchased from Class AAA Charlotte Friday.
He'll be joined by infielder Jayson Nix, who is returning from a rehabilitation assignment with Charlotte.
To make room for Podsednik and Nix, the White Sox outrighted outfielder Jerry Owens to Charlotte and placed Brian Anderson (strained right oblique) on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to April 30).
The Sox are obviously hoping Podsednik can recapture some of the old magic. In 2005, he batted .290 and stole 59 bases while hitting out of the leadoff spot.
Injuries slowed Podsednik the next two seasons with the White Sox, and he played 93 games with the Colorado Rockies last year, batting .253 with 12 stolen bases.
