DUI prosecutor honored:
Kane County Assistant State's Attorney Steve Sims has been named a 2009 Prosecutor of the Year by the Illinois Department of Transportation. Sims, who is chief of the traffic and DUI division, was one of two people selected for the award based on his innovation, interaction with victims and prosecution of impaired drivers, officials said. Sims also received the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists' Outstanding Prosecutor Award last year.
Nonresident pool passes:
Geneva Park District's Sunset Pool will offer nonresident passes beginning today. Pick up a form at the Geneva Community Center, 710 Western Ave. Sunset Pool opens May 23 at noon for Geneva Park District Resident Pool Pass holders and at 12:30 p.m. for nonresident pass holders and the general public. Law school scholarships:
The Kane County Bar Association seeks applicants for its annual scholarship program for area law students. In years past, the association has awarded at least two $1,000 scholarships to students who either reside in Kane County themselves or whose parents live in Kane County. Park district adds trees:
Fox Valley Park District will launch its "Plant 1,500 Trees" campaign Saturday at four park locations. Roughly 325 trees will be planted through the combined efforts of park district crews and more than 100 volunteers from Calvary Church of Naperville and several area Scout groups. The four Aurora parks slated to receive trees are Sutton Lake Park at Sutton Lane and Brookwood; South Spring Lake Park at McCoy Drive and Frontenac; Frontenac Park at East New York Street and Frontenac; and Barrington Lake Park at Eola and Barrington.
Dist. 304 records disposal:
The temporary files for all students in the Geneva High School Class of 2003 will be destroyed during the week of May 18. Temporary records are maintained for five years following graduation, transfer, or permanent withdrawal from a school district, at which point they may be destroyed. Students who wish to pick up their file must do so in person and present photo identification. Students may also provide a parent with written permission and a photocopy of an ID for the file to be released.
