Really respecting taxpayer interests?
All school board members take an oath of office and swear to respect taxpayer interests by serving as a faithful protector of the school district's assets. Despite the currently dismal economic conditions with taxpayers in a squeeze for their lives, all of Indian Prairie School District 204's school board members, with the noted exception of Christine Vickers, recently voted to approve a nearly 4 percent pay increase for teachers.
This vote comes within weeks of teachers union President Val Dranias admitting that the union endorsed and backed for office current board members Mark Metzger, Jeanette Clark, Curt Bradshaw, John Stephens and Alka Tyle. All of these school board members voted to approve this highly questionable pay increase at a time when inflation is running at zero.
So, this begs two questions: Whom do these school board members really represent? And, have these school board members violated their oath of office?
