Truck driver indicted on reckless homicide, DUI charges in Huntley crash
The semi-truck driver who rear-ended a pickup truck on Route 47 on Oct. 31, killing a woman as she rode through Huntley with her husband and young son, has been indicted on charges of reckless homicide and driving under the influence of narcotics, police announced Wednesday.
Jeffrey C. Repec, 21, of the 2500 block of Elk Drive, was being held in the Kane County jail in lieu of $150,000 bond. He was indicted by a grand jury Tuesday on three counts of aggravated DUI and one count of reckless homicide, authorities said.
According to the charges, Repec had traces of marijuana in his system after his semi rear-ended a Ford F-150 pickup truck stopped in traffic on the Route 47 bridge over I-90 in Huntley. The crash crushed the pickup between Repec's semi and another large truck. It killed Tabitha Carroll, 32, of East Dubuque, who was riding in the pickup truck with her husband and 3-year-old son.
Police said Repec voluntarily submitted to a urine test as required to maintain a truck-driving license after a fatal crash, and the test showed an unspecified amount of marijuana in his system.
Repec surrendered to Huntley police on Tuesday and is scheduled to go before Kane County Associate Judge Leonard J. Wojtecki on Friday.
