Sears Tower plot juror excused
MIAMI -- Deliberations in the terrorism case against six Miami men accused of plotting to blow up Chicago's Sears Tower have stalled until a judge decides whether to replace a sick juror.
U.S. District Judge Joan Lenard dismissed the juror Thursday. The man fell ill earlier this week and was told by a doctor he couldn't return to the jury until Wednesday.
Lenard will interview alternate jurors to decide whether one is able to rejoin the jury, which got the case Monday following a two-month trial.
Two previous trials have ended in mistrials. One man was acquitted but is being deported to Haiti.
The men were arrested in June 2006 on charges of plotting with al-Qaida to blow up the Sears Tower and attack FBI offices in an attempt to topple the U.S. government.
