Antioch police looking for armed robbers, attempted robbers

Antioch police are investigating two armed robberies - one successful, and one attempted.

Police responded to a call early Sunday morning to the Comfort Inn hotel, 350 Route 173, where the clerk told them a white male wearing a hoodie and sunglasses displayed a gun and demanded money, police Cmdr. Jim Ruth said.

The clerk told police the robber made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and ran from the hotel. Ruth said detectives have several leads.

Police also responded to a call late Monday evening to the Dairy Queen, 966 Main St., after an employee reported a male Hispanic flashed a knife and demanded cash.

The employee was replenishing supplies after hours when she was surprised by the knife-wielding man. She told him she had no money and he could take anything he wanted, Ruth said. The man looked around, then ran from the store.

Investigators are looking for the suspect, who was described as 5-feet, 6-inches tall and thought to be in his early 20s. Nobody was injured in the attempted robbery.

Police do not believe the robbery and attempted robbery are related.
