Community Chest fete:

Geneva Community Chest will host a Wine Gala from 7:30 to 9:30 tonight at The Fresh Market, 718 Commons Drive in Geneva. Participants will enjoy prime rib, shrimp cocktail, cheeses and other hors d'oeuvres. Tickets are $25 per person. Call Sherri Weitl at (630) 232-8171 to arrange purchase. The Community Chest raises money for local human service agencies.

Recreation forum:

The Batavia Park District invites the public to discuss ideas about recreation in Batavia at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Civic Center, 327 W. Wilson St. Call (630) 879-5235 or visit bataviaparks.org.

Park offers summer savings:

The Fox Valley Park District is offering discount rates on season passes to Phillips Park Family Aquatic Center, Splash Country Water Park and Blackberry Farm through Thursday. Aquatic passes are $50 for children 13 and older, $45 for children between the ages of 2 and 12, and $30 for twilight passes. A complimentary friend pass is included with each purchase and pass holders are entitled to receive 10 percent off birthday party celebrations at either water park. Law school scholarships:

The Kane County Bar Association seeks applicants for its annual scholarship program for area law students. In years past, the association has awarded at least two $1,000 scholarships to students who either reside in Kane County or whose parents live in Kane County. Applications are due Friday and available at kanecountybar.org. Call (630) 762-1915.

District plans garage sale:

The Fox Valley Park District will hold a Communitywide Garage Sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Prisco Community Center parking lot, 150 W. Illinois Ave., Aurora. Interested sellers must register with the district. The fee is $30 for district residents and $45 for others. All proceeds from rental space will go toward youth community outreach programs. Growth workshop:

"Priority Places Workshop: Smart Growth is Healthy Living," a presentation of the Kane County Board, is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 8 at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove.
