Kane County tax bills online

Anxious to see the effect of the declining housing market on your property tax bill?

Your new bill is available online right now. Go to co.kane.il.us/treasurer and click on "property tax search." Paper bills should show up in your mailbox by the end of the week.

Overall, taxing bodies in Kane County are billing taxpayers $1,095,473,544 this spring, up 6.6 percent. The equalized assessed value of property in Kane County went up 5.5 percent to $15,879,228,620. The tax extension is set by the Kane County clerk, and land values are overseen by the supervisor of assessments.

The bill is based on levies set by taxing bodies in 2008. It is payable in two installments, one June 1 and the second Sept. 1.

The property assessments are based on an average of values as of Jan. 1 of 2008, 2007 and 2006.
