Jerry Lewis to bring music, memories to St. Charles

The original Nutty Professor is heading to the suburbs with a show full of music, comedy and stories from a legendary 60-year career in show business.

Jerry Lewis, who rose to fame in the 1940s as part of a comedy team with Dean Martin, will appear live on Saturday, May 9, at the Arcada Theater in St. Charles. The 83-year-old entertainer will be accompanied by a 24-piece orchestra as he takes a look back at his career on stage, screen and television.

Lewis is best known for his frenetic, slapstick comic persona in films like 1953's "The Caddy" (one of his many film collaborations with Martin) and 1963's "The Nutty Professor," which Eddie Murphy remade in the 1990s. He also took on some dramatic roles, including an acclaimed turn as a talk-show host in Martin Scorsese's "The King of Comedy" from 1983.

Beyond his show-business work, Lewis is known for his support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the telethon he hosts each year on its behalf.

Tickets for the 8 p.m. show start at $59, and they're available at the Arcada box office on the day of the show, at oshows.com or by calling (630) 587-8400. The Arcada is located at 105 E. Main St., St. Charles.
