Downtown Glen Ellyn hosts Couples Night
The popular Ladies Night Out at several restaurants and stores in downtown Glen Ellyn has morphed into a Couples Night event.
The new event, scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, May 1, will include wine tasting, beer, live music and specials at several shops.
Carol White, organizer of special events for the Downtown Glen Ellyn Alliance, said 100 women attended last year's event and organizers decided to expand it this time around to include men.
However, she said singles are welcome to join in as well.
"We thought it would be fun to get the guys downtown, too," White said. "We're trying to make it a good, fun, cheap night out."
A $10 fee includes three drinks and an assortment of appetizers from Bistro Monet and Cabs. Men also will get a $5 coupon for a Mother's Day purchase at a downtown store.
All participating shops also will have a one-night promotion, and This Is Me Photography will take a free photo of couples at Maison Suzanne.
The alliance will provide a rickshaw for romantic rides and live music downtown, and the village's first jail cell - which is normally not open to the public - will be available for visits at the Five Corners Florist at Pennsylvania Ave.
An after-party begins at 10 p.m. at Cab's.
Organizers are asking those interested to preregister at glenellynite.com.
"I really encourage people to come enjoy their downtown, (and) eat a lot of free food," White said.
Check-in will start at 5:30 p.m. at Young's Appliances, 500 Crescent Blvd.; Bundles of Books, 560 Crescent Blvd.; and Katy's Boutique, 42 N. Main St.
