Two teens badly hurt in Libertyville crash; weather thwarts air ambulance

Two Libertyville teenagers were badly hurt after their car slammed into utility pole in Libertyville early Sunday morning.

The two were ejected from the car on impact, according to Libertyville Fire Department Lt. Deal Sarby. The force of the collision broke the wooden pole in half.

The 17- and 18-year-old men, whose names were not being released, were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Sarby said one of the men was in critical condition and the other suffered extensive injuries. Paramedics on the scene called for a helicopter airlift, but poor weather prevented the chopper from flying.

According to Libertyville Police Sgt. Bill Kinast, the car was headed east on Route 137 near Sunny View Road when the driver lost control and hit the pole. The accident happened at about 5:15 a.m.

Kinast said the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
