Shelter-A-Child tag days

Shelter Inc., a nonprofit child welfare agency, is looking for about 200 taggers to volunteer during their Shelter-A-Child tag days, May 8-10. Volunteers solicit contributions in two-hour shifts throughout the Northwest suburbs. Proceeds go toward Shelter, which provides housing and care for children and adolescents. Taggers are needed at Metra stations, intersections and local stores. www.shelter-inc.org.

Water flushing in Volo

Volo will flush the water system in the Terra Springs Subdivision on Tuesday, April 28 and in the Remington Subdivision on Wednesday, April 29. Residents might experience some water discoloration, pressure variation and turbidity during the flushing. People with questions should contact the Volo Village Hall at (815) 740-6982.

General Assembly Scholarships announced

State Rep. JoAnn Osmond has announced the names of students who have been awarded the 2009-10 Illinois General Assembly Scholarship for the 61st District. They are: Hannah Okamoto, Lindenhurst; Kelsey Green, Antioch; Emily Grum, Wadsworth; Shannon LeClair, Antioch; Amanda Woods, Winthrop Harbor; Randie-Lynn Bullock, Wadsworth; Kali Miller, Lindenhurst; and George McKenzie of Ingleside. The Illinois General Assembly Scholarship is a one-year full tuition award that includes summer school. Applications for the 2010-11 academic year will be available in Rep.
