Evanston cops shoot knife-wielding man
Police in Evanston say officers shot and killed a man who stabbed one of them as they were trying to break up a confrontation he was having with his landlord.
Evanston Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther says the incident occurred Sunday afternoon at a home about a block from Evanston Township High School.
Guenther says the man was reportedly threatening the landlord with a knife, and when the responding officers ordered him put it down, he advanced toward them and stabbed one of them on the hand or arm.
The officers then fired on him.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office had not released the name of the dead man late Sunday night.
