Boy struck by SUV with only toddler inside
Authorities say a 5-year-old boy in southwest suburban Plainfield has been critically hurt by an unattended SUV that rolled down a driveway and hit him.
Will County sheriff's office spokesman Pat Barry says a mother in an unincorporated area near Plainfield allegedly left a 2-year-old child in the SUV while visiting a neighbor Friday. Barry says the vehicle somehow slipped out of gear, then coasted down a driveway and into the street, where it hit the 5-year-old on a bike.
Lockport Township Fire District Battalion Chief Paul Hertzmann says the boy was taken to a hospital with what may have been life-threatening injuries.
Barry says the child in the car wasn't injured.
