Quinn wants a green school in suburbs

Gov. Pat Quinn is backing a project by the U.S. Green Building Council to retrofit three Illinois schools.

A state lawmaker has proposed a bill to set up a task force to pick which schools will get the work. One will be in Chicago, another in the suburbs and one somewhere else in the state.

Green Building Council members will donate the services and supplies to retrofit the schools. Work on each school will cost between $35,000 and $40,000. The work to be done will help schools earn certification as a sustainable building.

The projects could include improving school ventilation, increasing the use of outdoor light and better landscaping.
