Mayor claims double-homicide was conspiracy

The mayor of south suburban Country Club Hills claims a criminal conspiracy was likely involved in the double-homicide of an elderly couple.

Country Club Hills Mayor Dwight Welch tells WBBM Radio that the Jan. 29 killings of 77-year-old Leon Taylor and 75-year-old Minnie Taylor was "murder-for hire."

A message left for Country Club Hills police wasn't immediately returned.

Authorities say the Taylors were found dead in their home, each with a single gunshot wound to the head. Police say there were no signs of struggle in the house.

Welch, a former veteran police officer, says police are searching for a "person of interest" and are working with state and federal authorities.

The Taylors' killings were among five homicides in the suburb of about 17,000 people within an 11-day span.
