Robinson, Taft, Davis to be honored by TV academy

The Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences holds its annual Silver Circle induction honoring career achievement at 5:30 p.m. today at the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel, 163 E. Walton Place, Chicago. Honorees include WFLD Channel 32 anchor Robin Robinson, WTTW Channel 11 anchor-reporter Elizabeth Brackett, WLS Channel 7 meteorologist Jerry Taft, WGN Channel 9 anchor-news director Paul Davis, WBBM Channel 2 courtroom artist Marcia Danits, WMAQ Channel 5 cameraman James Stricklin and, last but not least, Channel 9 Cub producer-director Arne Harris, who will be inducted posthumously.

'Race' to Chicago

It's a big weekend for "The Amazing Race" in Chicago. The CBS reality series comes looking for contestants for its 15th worldwide go-round at Harrah's Joliet Casino, 151 N. Joliet St., Joliet, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Applicants must be 21, have a passport and complete an application found at cbs2chicago.com/community. "Race" host Phil Keoghan makes a pit stop for a meet & greet on his Ride Across America multiple-sclerosis fundraiser from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at 301 W. North Ave. in Chicago's Old Town neighborhood. He'll also plug the Bike MS Tour de Farms fundraiser set for mid-June in DeKalb.

Think global, go local

"Chicago Public Radio Presents" plays host to its second annual Global Activism Expo from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Northeastern Illinois University Physical Education Complex, 3600 W. Foster Ave., Chicago. Admission is free.

Too many 'Ladykillers'

There was no need for anybody to remake "The Ladykillers," the classic British comedy starring Alec Guinness and Peter Sellers. But the Coen brothers did it anyway five years ago, with Tom Hanks as the leader of a dysfunctional caper crew. It's nowhere near the original, but J.K. Simmons steals the film as a love-struck explosives expert with a handlebar mustache. It's at 6:30 p.m. Friday on BET.
