Don't credit her for school tax savings
It is believed that true leaders must be strong in exhibiting two key attributes: vision and humility. Naperville Unit District 203 school board member, Susan Crotty, was on the campaign trail taking credit for saving Naperville taxpayers millions. It was actually the Daily Herald that deserves full credit for saving District 203 taxpayers millions. It was the Herald that broke the story about District 203 taking advantage of a loophole in the tax law, enabling the district to take tens of millions more than taxpayers ever voted for in 2002. Having been exposed by the Herald of taking advantage of taxpayers, District 203 was embarrassed into not implementing the final year of the tax loophole. Crotty played no leadership role here whatsoever. She was compelled, like the rest of the board, to do the right thing and vote against taking further advantage of the taxpayer. The Herald deserves all of the credit. By the way, Ms. Crotty voted against returning any of the over-collected taxes.
