Des Plaines busts meth lab, confiscates drugs worth $20,000
Two men have been charged with running a meth lab out of their Des Plaines home, police said. The street value of the high-value meth was about $20,000, according to police.
Police pulled over Edgardo B. Sagado, 50, after he left a home that had been under surveillance in the 8900 block of Church Street about 12:30 a.m. Friday, April 17, a police report said. After being pulled over, Sagado tried to escape on foot but was arrested, police said. Officers later found a loaded pistol with its serial number scratched off in Sagado's car.
During the stop, police obtained consent to search the Church Street home where they found "several instruments utilized in the manufacture of crystal meth amphetamine and approximately 100 grams of high quality narcotics," according to the report.
Two brothers, Alberto Melencio I, 40, and Alberto Melencio II, 38, lived at the home and were charged with manufacturing a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver, police said. Sagado, who lives in the 8900 block of Kennedy Drive in unincorporated Des Plaines, was charged with obstruction, resisting arrest and unlawful use of a weapon.
All three men will be in Skokie for a court hearing on Thursday, April 23.
