All aboard for train club's open house

Visitors of all ages will enjoy the sights and sounds of an interactive operating model train layout when the North Central O Gaugers Model Railroad Train Club rumbles through the Dundee Township Library on Saturday, April 25, for a free demonstration.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., both passenger and freight trains will wind their ways through complete city and country scenes as NCOG members from all over the area set up their model railroads on tables that will fill the library's meeting room, 555 Barrington Ave., East Dundee.

The layouts will include railroad liveries of the region, such as the Chicago North Western, Milwaukee Road, Wisconsin Central, Union Pacific and others that represent our area's rail history, complete with flashing crossing lights and train whistles.

Also included will be fantasy trains such as Thomas the Tank toy train sets, where kids can play engineer. Or, they may be able to help out NCOG members as they load the coal, fire the boiler crank up the drive wheels and roll the locomotives out of the roundhouse. NCOG members enjoy sharing their hobby at many local libraries, not just Dundee's, especially with parents and children.

So whether you are a model railroad enthusiast who has fond memories of playing with those Lionel trains at Christmas or simply love the sights and sounds of our modern day "Iron Horses", plan on hopping on board and enjoying the fun at the Dundee Library's Special Train Run and Open House on April 25.

The event is free and open to the public. No reservations are necessary. For information, contact the library at (847) 428-3661, ext. 308, or online at www.dundeelibrary.info.
