Diageo to invest $20.2 mil into Plainfield plant

Diageo PLC, the world's largest producer and distributor of alcoholic drinks, say it's investing $20.2 million into an Illinois plant to keep up with demand for its ready-to-serve cocktails.

The London-based maker of Ketel One vodka, Baileys and Captain Morgan, says it will build a 44,000-square foot addition at its Plainfield plant.

The company says the addition will house a new bottling line for its cocktails like Smirnoff Mojito, Smirnoff Grand Cosmopolitan and Smirnoff Tuscan Lemonade.

Diageo says it's seeing success with its ready-to-mix lines as more consumers drink at home.

In June the company announced an $18 million investment to the same plant, saying it needed to keep up with demand for Smirnoff vodka.
