Cocaine seized after traffic stop
LINCOLN -- A cracked windshield resulted in the discovery by Illinois State Police of 88 pounds of cocaine.
According to state police Captain James Wolf, a truck driven by 51-year-old Jose Luis Hernandez Nunez of Greenfield, Mo. was stopped Friday near Lincoln.
Wolf said Monday that Nunez was heading north on Interstate 55 in a semi-tractor-trailer when the cracked windshield was noticed, and a trooper initiated a traffic stop.
Wolf said Nunez race was not a factor in the traffic stop. However, the trooper's curiosity was aroused by the fact Nunez was pulling an empty flatbed.
A police dog sniffed out the drugs near where the trailer hitches to the truck cab.
Nunez is scheduled to appear Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Springfield.
